Exclusive Interviews with 'The Sound of Music' Director and Cast

Hawk and I interview the director and cast of MBS's The Sound of Music, now running till 10 August 2014. This production started off in the UK West End as part of a reality TV competition, How Do You Solve a Problem like Maria?, in which the winner gets to play the lead in the premiere run. Andrew Lloyd Webber is a co-producer and one of the judges of the show. The production that is running here is recreated in South Africa with a large cast of natives, save for six of the younger Von Trapp children who are famously selection through auditions locally. First off, here's our session with Director Anton Luitingh, where we discuss the background of the musical and this current production:

Not only do Bethany Dickson (who plays the mountaintop-spinning Maria) and Carmen Pretorius (who plays big sister Liesl) have to rehearse with a new cast of kids at every stop of their international tour, they also have to be mommy/big sisters to these kids. Is it difficult playing these iconic roles with audiences making comparisons to the movie? Click to find out!

Janelle Visagie is an operatically trained soprano with numerous operatic supporting roles to her credit. This interview also doubles as a masterclass as we discuss many issues operatic singers face when performing musical theatre professionally:
